“...nature
has its own beauty which constantly changes and is hard to pin
down, so I use my imagination to produce my own version...”
Sarah Porter graduated in fine art from Sunderland College
of Art and Goldsmiths College, London, before emigrating to
Canada. There she worked as a graphic designer and illustrator
before resuming her career in fine art during her last five years
in North America.
She has travelled extensively on that continent and has
spent a considerable amount of time in the south-west United
States. The strong clear light, the colours of the desert and
Native American art strongly influenced her work from the outset
and are still the primary factors in her work today.
She returned to England in 1994 and has since had several
exhibitions as well as having had her work sold to publishers and
greeting card companies.
Symbolism, archetypal imagery and bright colours suffuse
her work, with animals and mythical people being the prime subject
matter.
